Through the exploration of acting, song, dance, video, text, and design, young actors are encouraged to express themselves and discover their full potential. We use each individual's talents to create, rehearse, and produce a unique theatrical event. These events include a movie production, a musical, and Shakespearean plays. Students are involved in all aspects of the production, both onstage and off, developing existing theatre skills (although no previous experience is necessary), and learning new ones. Theatre at St. Michael's also celebrates diversity, community, and encourages respect, awareness, and acceptance of one's uniqueness and the appreciation of others. Ages: Ages 9–15 for most sessions; age 14–18 for Teen Intensive. No previous theatre experience necessary. The Stingrays soccer camps are directed by Mario Pereira. Coach Pereira continues to provide the soccer community with the highest level of training. Each year the curriculum is modified to introduce new tactics and techniques necessary to enjoy the game today. The goal of the Stingrays camp is to unleash the creativity in each player while building self- esteem and confidence. The camper/ instructor ratio is 1:10 and this ensures individual attention. This summer program is for RI middle school students. This two 2-week program (held in July & August) exposes students to the many aspects and careers in the transportation industry. Participants learn about highway and bridge design by teaming up to build a bridge out of balsa wood, learning about the construction and maintenance of roads, and other career opportunities. Participants will also go on field trips to places such as T.F. Green Airport, boat trip on Narragansett Bay, train ride to and tour of Boston, Kingston Train Station, and other recreation activities. Restrictions/Age or Skill Requirements: Participants must be entering the 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. He/she must have a grade point average of 2.0 or better and have an interest in Engineering, Science, or Transportation. Each applicant must also write a brief essay on why they would like to attend this program and include some of their interests. A copy of his/her most recent report card should also be included with the application and essay. Sessions/Dates/Times: First Session – July 1-12, 2013; Second Session – July 29-August 9, 2013, 8:30 am – 4:00 pm - daily.
Cost: Every applicant accepted into this program will receive a full scholarship to participate in one of the 2-week sessions. Scholarships include cost of food, transportation, field trips, and classroom supplies.
